Anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS) & anterior aspect of iliac crest

Insertion

Fascia of the iliotibial tract

Actions

  • Stabilisation of the hip and knee
  • Hip abduction, internal rotation & weak flexion
  • Knee flexion (past 30 degrees)
  • Lateral rotation of tibia

Innervation

  • Superior gluteal nerve (L4, L5, S1)

Blood Supply

  • Deep branch of the superior gluteal artery
