Transverse processes of vertebrae C1-C4
Insertion
Medial border of the scapula (between superior angle and root of spine)
Actions
- Elevates scapula
- Tilts the glenoid cavity inferiorly by downwardly rotating the scapula
- Assists in neck extension and lateral flexion
Innervation
- Cervical nerve (C3, C4)
- Dorsal scapular nerve (C5)
Blood Supply
- Dorsal scapular artery
