Greater trochanter of femur (lateral & superoposterior facet)

- Hip medial rotation (anterior muscle fibers)
- Hip lateral rotation (posterior muscle fibers)
- Stabilises pelvis when standing on one leg
Innervation
- Superior gluteal nerve (L4, L5, S1 nerve roots)

- Superior gluteal artery
