Origin

Pelvic surfaces ilium/ischium & obturator membrane

Insertion

Medial surface of greater trochanter (trochanteric fossa)

Actions

  • Laterally rotates the hip joint
  • Stabilises the hip joint
  • Assists with abduction of the hip when flexed

Innervation

Nerve to obturator internus (L5 & S1)

Blood Supply

  • Obturator Artery
  • Inferior Gluteal Artery
  • Pudendal Artery
